Terms of Service
1. Acceptance
By creating an Abstract account or using the service, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy.
2. Eligibility & Accounts
You must be 16 years or older and legally capable of entering contracts. You are responsible for safeguarding your credentials.
3. The Service
Abstract is a web-based platform that:
- imports open-access research,
- creates personalised AI assistants and feeds, and
- enables chat-based collaboration.
The current release is a public beta; features may change without notice.
4. Subscriptions & Billing
- Free and Premium plans are offered.
- Premium is billed monthly in advance (see pricing on our site).
- Payments are processed by Stripe; VAT is added where applicable.
- Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled in the customer portal.
- Downgrades take effect at the end of the current billing period.
5. User Content
- Licence to Abstract – You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive licence to host, process, reproduce and display content you upload (including chat prompts) solely to operate and improve the service.
- Research Integrity – Do not upload confidential or proprietary data unless authorised.
- Feedback – Suggestions you provide may be used by us without obligation to you.
6. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- violate any applicable law or regulation, or infringe the rights of others (including intellectual property and privacy rights);
- reverse engineer, decompile, or otherwise attempt to derive the source code of the platform, or disrupt the normal functioning of the platform;
- upload, share, or generate content that is illegal, harmful, obscene, defamatory, or otherwise objectionable (including hate speech, harassment, or malware);
- submit any personal data of a third party without that party's consent, or any sensitive personal data (such as information about someone's health, genetic or biometric data, racial or ethnic origin, or political opinions);
- attempt to use Abstract's AI features to generate content that violates these Terms, or to circumvent any content restrictions or safety measures;
- scrape, crawl, or bulk-download data from the platform without our prior written permission.
7. Intellectual Property
The website, application, software, and all content provided by Abstract are owned by us or our licensors and protected by Swedish and international intellectual property laws.
8. Beta Disclaimer
The Abstract platform is in beta and may contain bugs. All features are provided "as is" without warranties of any kind.
9. AI Outputs & No Professional Advice
Abstract utilises artificial intelligence (including OpenAI's models) to generate content and responses. You understand that AI-generated outputs may be incorrect, incomplete, or biased. All information provided by Abstract's AI is for general informational purposes and is not intended as professional advice (including but not limited to medical, legal, or financial advice). You should not rely on AI-provided content as a substitute for professional advice. Always exercise your own judgment and seek the guidance of qualified professionals for any critical decisions.
You acknowledge that Abstract is not responsible or liable for any content generated by the AI, or for any reliance you place on it. AI outputs do not reflect our endorsements or opinions. All content (whether generated by users or by AI) is provided "as is" and you use it at your own risk.
10. Warranty Disclaimer
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied (including any warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement).
11. Limitation of Liability
We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for any lost profits, data, or business interruption. We are also not liable for any harm resulting from content generated by the AI or by users. In all cases, our aggregate liability is limited to the greater of EUR 100 or the total amount you paid to Abstract in the 12 months before the claim arose.
12. Indemnification
You will indemnify and hold harmless Abstract and its directors, employees, and affiliates from any third-party claims arising out of your content (including any content generated using Abstract's AI), your breach of these Terms, or your illegal conduct.
13. Termination
- You may terminate your account at any time via the account settings or by contacting [email protected].
- We may suspend or terminate your access for material breach of these Terms, security risks, non-payment, or if required to comply with law.
- Sections 5–12 & 14 of these Terms survive termination.
14. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution
These Terms are governed by the laws of Sweden. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Uppsala, Sweden, except that if you are a consumer in the EU, you may bring proceedings in your country of residence.
15. Changes to Terms
We may revise these Terms from time to time. We will provide at least 30 days' notice (e.g., by email or in-app alert) before any changes take effect. Your continued use of Abstract after the effective date of updated Terms constitutes your acceptance of the changes.
